Conception
Two "street boys" illustrated biographical scenes of daily street life in Mwanza, Tanzania. These drawings enrich our understanding of the street children´s Lebenswelt. They are emotionally evocative and provide insight into the children´s hopes and dreams. On one hand the drawings are virtual mental maps of the surroundings in which the street children inhabit. On the other hand, the highly personal nature of the material, often dealing with village and family life, shows how drawing can be an effective instrument for coping with the past.
Topics like social relationships, violence, drug usage, the clash of tradition and modernity and visions are portrayed.
